Poverty is not limited to lack of income and productive resources to ensure sustainable livelihood. Poverty indicators include hunger and malnutrition, limited access to education and other basic services including health and nutrition, social discrimination, exclusion and marginalization plus lack of participation in decision-making.

In this connection, the Poverty and Human Development Monitoring Agency (PHDMA), Planning and Convergence Department, is supporting government to effectively address this issue by optimizing efforts through inter-sectoral approaches. PHDMA is playing an instrumental role in advancing various gender- inclusive, non-discriminatory and social welfare-centric schemes, programmes and initiatives with a basket of services, such as developing tools for monitoring and evaluation, documenting impacts on the ground, sharing a repository of knowledge with concerned departments and engaging in policy improvement and programme design. This convergence is bringing synergy between different government programmes/schemes in terms of planning, processing and implementation. As a result, it is facilitating sustainable inclusive people-centric development.
